What is the News?

India conducted a successful flight trial of an Advanced Agni missile with Multiple Independently Targeted Re-Entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast.

The Defence Ministry confirmed the missile was flight-tested with multiple payloads, targeted at spatially distributed locations across a large geographical area in the Indian Ocean Region. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh complimented DRDO, the Indian Army, and industry partners, stating this adds incredible capability to India's defence preparedness. MIRV technology allows a single missile to carry multiple warheads capable of hitting different targets independently, significantly enhancing strategic deterrence. For aspirants, this is relevant to India's nuclear triad, the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP), and the Agni missile series.
