World Bee Day is observed every year on May 20 to raise awareness about the importance of bees and other pollinators in maintaining biodiversity, food security, and ecological balance. The date marks the birth anniversary of Anton Janša, a pioneer of modern apiculture from Slovenia.
The day was officially proclaimed by the United Nations in 2017 following a proposal by Slovenia.
