On May 8, 2026, the Karnataka government appointed retired High Court judge Justice Ramachandra Dattatray Huddar as the chairperson of the Admission Overseeing Committee (AOC). The AOC plays a crucial regulatory role in the state’s higher education landscape, overseeing the admission process for professional courses such as engineering, medicine, dental, and other streams that fall under Karnataka’s professional education framework. The post had been lying vacant since October 2024, following the completion of tenure of its previous chairperson, Justice B. Manohar.
Justice Huddar brings extensive judicial and administrative experience to the role. Born on 13 August 1963 in Gokak, Belgaum district, he was sworn in as an Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court on 24 January 2023, later elevated as a permanent judge on 8 January 2025, and retired on 12 August 2025. Prior to his high court tenure, he served in key district judiciary positions, including Principal District and Sessions Judge in Dharwad and Mysuru, and also headed the Karnataka Judicial Academy in Bengaluru. Post-retirement, in November 2025, he was recommended for appointment as Ethics Officer-cum-Ombudsman of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
