India is set to host the inaugural edition of the World Yogasana Championship from 4 June to 8 June 2026 at TransStadia in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The championship is expected to witness participation from more than 40 countries, highlighting the growing global recognition of Yogasana as a competitive sport and wellness discipline.
The event is considered a major milestone for India’s efforts to promote yoga internationally beyond traditional wellness practices. Organizers stated that athletes from different parts of the world will compete in multiple Yogasana categories based on flexibility, balance, strength, posture, and artistic performance.
The championship is expected to strengthen India’s image as the global centre of yoga and traditional wellness systems. Officials believe the event will also encourage youth participation in yoga-based sporting activities.
Ahmedabad has increasingly emerged as an important venue for international sports and cultural events due to its modern infrastructure and sports facilities.
