To inject complete transparency into the public distribution pipeline, the Government of India expanded its automated Quick Response (QR) code tagging initiative to Odisha for the ongoing procurement marketing season. Under this tech intervention, every single foodgrain bag is stitched with a unique QR code tracking its exact procurement center, the managing agency, and the harvest season. These codes are scanned systematically at FCI godowns during storage and via electronic Point-of-Sale (ePoS) devices at Fair Price Shops during distribution, completely eliminating leakage and automating state subsidy disbursals.
