The administration of Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar has rolled out a comprehensive summer management strategy to protect its diverse wildlife population from soaring temperatures. With an intense heat wave hitting eastern India, the zoo has customized interventions for all 169 species across its facility. The strategy includes specialized mist sprayers and water sprinklers for smaller mammals, special high-moisture diets rich in water-dense fruits for primates, and extensively flooded cooling points for terrestrial and avian species. Concurrently, visitor comfort has been augmented via specialized cold-water points and mist foggers at heavy footfall zones such as entry gates.
